And then there was smart light!

It’s difficult for some people to visualise things in their head. Unfortunately, I am one of those people. So when we were renovating and extending our home recently my partner was adamant that we include a smart lighting system as part of our plans. I on the other hand was not convinced.

I am a practical person and didn’t quite get how smart lighting would enhance my world. Surely a simple on/off light switch on the wall would be fine. There were also so many lighting options, LED lights, 5 amp lamps, overhead lights, chandeliers, accent lights, wall lights, floor lights, spots, stair lights, task lights, need I go on!

So my partner took me to a home that had a full Control4 home automation system, which included a Phillips Dynalite Smart Lighting system. When I saw the smart lighting system first hand I was then able to understand the great difference between your normal switch on the wall and lamp in the corner setup.

The house we saw had a panel on the wall with 5 different mood light settings. You simply selected one, and with the push of a button you could have every light in the room come on, or choose for specific areas to illuminate individually. The mood of the room could be changed in an instant. The house we saw looked amazing and the mood created by the smart lighting made all the difference. You could even use a smart phone to control the lights, so you wouldn’t need to get up off the couch, or if you were even away on holidays you can control your lightening remotely (a good deterrent for potential burglars).

In the end we opted for a Control4 home automation system to include a Phillips Dynalite system and I love it!

It’s simple to use, uncomplicated, affordable and energy efficient.

So now after a hard day’s work when I return home with just one-touch the ‘Welcome Home’ setting disarms security, turns on lights to a level which I have pre-determined and activates the audio system, filling the house with sound. The system saves energy and ensures the lights, as well as the blinds and curtains, are set perfectly, according to the time of day and time of year. Saving me time, effort and money.

So in short, would I recommend smart lighting systems – Yes I would!

Features and benefits of the Phillips Dynalite smart lighting system:

Preset lighting control

This is more than just on/off lighting control. Dynalite controls allow you to create ambience and recall different lighting scenes to suit your mood and the occasion.

Distributed control and monitoring

You can configure, control and monitor all the lights and system components from any point on the network and generate system status reports.

Ease of installation and configuration

The DyNet system is easier to install and takes less time to configure than conventional systems.
Flexibility in design

When layouts or control methods require modification, Envision software enables changes to be carried out by a simple reprogramming of the system.
Energy savings

By using intelligent lighting systems, lighting is only used when needed. Natural light is harvested and supplementary lighting adjusted accordingly, resulting in optimized environmental performance and minimized operating and maintenance costs.
Advanced integration into other systems

The Philips Dynalite range of integration devices and network gateways allows the DyNet system to be configured to work in conjunction with other systems, such as blinds, audio-visual, heating control and home automation systems.
Increased lamp life

The Philips Dynalite soft start and surge-limiting voltage regulation technologies protect lamps and increases life span.
Perfect LED dimming

Advanced technology from Philips Dynalite enables flicker-free dimming of LED lamps.
