Planning going on holidays this summer? The getting-there-and-back part can be stressful enough even before you begin to worry; Did I remember to arm the house’s security system? Did I leave the garage door open? Did I forget to switch off the heating? Commonly the answer is “I don’t remember” and for the next 10 days that worry is firmly planted in the back of your mind. Not an ideal start to any holiday!
With a home automation system these concerns are quickly eased:
- Check which lights are on at the house
- Check the status of your security system and view live security video
- Make adjustments to your heating controller
- Set up temporary security codes if anyone needs to get in your house
- Adjust the blinds day or night
- Control your music system remotely
And much more
All of this can be done on your smartphone from anywhere in the world where you have access to an internet connection. So while you can’t take all the stress out of holiday travel, you can at least be sure your home is secure while you’re away.
One-touch security as you walk out the door
Even as you’re walking out the door, packing up the car, and pulling out the driveway, your home automation system is securing your home. With one touch control, you can initiate a “going away” scene: simultaneously all the lights in your home turn off, your doors lock automatically, your security system arms itself, and the heating control is adjusted to your pre-set “Holiday mode”. Farewell home, hello relaxation and peace of mind!
Keep an eye on your home while you are away
While you are stretched out by the pool side overseas with your favourite book – Anywhere Access allows you to check in on your home—view live security video feeds, adjust your home’s heating settings, and much more, all from your smart phone. In fact, you can access your entire home automation system. You are effectively taking a piece of “home” with you on holidays that you can carry around in your pocket for the duration of your time away.
A home that looks “lived in” is less likely to be targeted by thieves. With a home automation system, you can set up a “mockupancy” scene that turns on lights at randomised times. That way it will look like there’s someone in the house (even if you’re in a different time zone).
If something were to happen to your house while you are away (like a break-in), you’d probably want to be notified immediately. With smart home security, you can set up automatic alerts that send you a text message when anything unusual happens.
Automatic alerts are just one piece of the puzzle—once you are given the heads up, you can actually do something to fix it. If it’s just a friend at the front door (best case scenario), then you can let him in by unlocking the door from your smart phone or by providing him with a temporary access code. If it’s something like a burst pipe, you can turn your water off and take the necessary steps to mitigate the situation, even before you get home. And if there’s an intruder, you’ll be able to notify the authorities immediately.
A perimeter is the boundary that separates your assets from the outside world. The purpose of perimeter security is to deter, detect, delay and deny unauthorised access to your home and its surrounding grounds. So if someone breaks this perimeter security beam you will receive a message to your smartphone, giving you a chance to immediately check your CCTV video and if necessary, notify the authorities before an intruder even gets to your home.
All of these home security features give you the peace of mind to be able to fully relax and enjoy your well deserved holidays – Enjoy!
