In today’s modern world we all have so many draws on our time. Working full-time, having to prepare a family meal, we need time to get the homework completed, time to get regular exercise, to meeting friends for a coffee, time to volunteering with a community based organisation, time to relax and watch our favourite programmes, and spending some quality time with our nearest and dearest.
There are only 24 hours in the day and 168 hours in the week. Meanwhile daily news reports inform us of how important it is to get plenty of sleep!
It’s not easy to pack all of this in, however, with the ongoing progress and development in smart home technology we now see many conveniences available that allow us to spend more time doing the things we really want to do.
Here are a few ways that home automation can help give you more spare time in your day:
Predefined home settings
By automating common amenities like heating, light switches and entertainment components. Imagine: You come home after a long day of work and, instead of manually adjusting the heating, flipping on all the lights, activating the gas fireplace and turning on the stereo system, you simply press one button to transform your home environment into a place that’s warm, welcoming and relaxing.
Once I get home from work and dinner is finally ready to be served, rounding up the kids can be an issue—one I don’t usually have the energy to deal with. So, again, I enlist the help of my home automation system. A broadcast message goes out over all the speakers in the house announcing “Dinner Time,” while the lights flash in the kids’ rooms and the electronics shut down.
Putting the children to bed and waking them up easily
If you, like me, have a hard time getting the kids to bed at night and getting them out of bed in the morning, home automation systems can help. You only have to set lights to turn on and off at specific times.
Scheduling lights, the TV, and music systems to turn off around bedtime will create a calm atmosphere and help induce sleep. Additionally, setting lights to turn on in the morning will encourage kids to get out of bed. You can also set the music system to play upbeat tunes to put a spring in your kids’ steps.
Installing a home automation system for scheduling lights to turn on and off is extremely beneficial to the parents who work, as it will also help kids stick to a routine.
Lock and Unlock Doors
Home automation systems give you the power to remotely unlock the door when your kids get back from school or if they lock themselves out of the house accidentally while you’re away at work. Better yet, with their own personalised codes, they can get access immediately and you can immediately receive a notification on your mobile device as they enter. And if they leave the door unlocked, you can easily lock it right up.
Also, with one-touch control you can lock the whole house, instead of going around securing each individual door/ window before bedtime.
When there is a parcel or delivery due at the house but you are at work, no need to be at home, you will get a text alert that there is someone at the gate and you can speak to them directly from your smartphone and instruct them what to do.
Or when the kids get home from school in the afternoon, they use their own special code on the smart lock on the front door to let themselves into the house. A text is automatically sent to my smartphone reading “Noah is home” with a time stamp.
Monitor What’s Going on at Home
By installing security camera systems around the house, you’ll be able to keep an eye on your kids 24/7. With real-time video monitoring, you can also check if kids have left home for school or football practice and if they’ve come back home on time.
Planning a party and to have a group of good friends over at the weekend. With one-touch control you can choose “party mode” – lights dim, music comes, heating set at the perfect temperature and curtains draw. All that’s left is for you to enjoy yourself…!
In a time where our lives get busier and busier, and where it seems spare time comes at a premium, such modern conveniences as shopping, banking and even dating online allow us to cherry pick how we choose to spend our “down time”. A smart home system will deliver the optimum in secure, convenient and efficient living, saving you energy, time and money!
Smart home technology is all about the automation or management of your home and daily life. This could be anything from lights that can be controlled remotely or on a schedule, to connected home entertainment systems for streaming media to multiple screens, or added features to enhance your home security.
